No one ever says this who is actually working with me: He did not have to take any medication to reduce the risk of reoccurrence and, in fact, 15+ years later he doesn't take any medication at all, for anything. My husband, also a cancer survivor, did have chemotherapy but it only ran for 10-12 weeks, not 1 to 2 years. I do, however, take other medication to reduce the risk of reoccurrence. I am a cancer survivor, 3 and a half years and counting, and I was not prescribed chemotherapy. It is not a single drug and the combination of drugs prescribed varies widely depending on the type of cancer, how much it has progressed, etc. It is not a single disease with a single treatment.Ĭhemotherapy is a treatment that uses drugs to stop the growth of cancer cells.
